It's a good point, and since the answer is so simple, it should be of some use. I hope you don't mind if I quote your question largely verbatim, you put it very clearly. No, I don't mind. Sorry for the late answer. Back to top |
New preview/stable: nvidia 180.37
Release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1951107 Bug reports read this first: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Also, I am moving sgfxi to sync with the new offiicial nvidia driver release methods, but I'll use stable/preview, whichever is latest, for current stable, and I'll use beta for beta. This was just clarified by nvidia, and I've seen no real issues with users running the preview stuff, the beta will stay beta. This puts all their latest drivers as current stable using this new method, with no current betas. Unless someone has real issues with this, which I seriously doubt they will, this is how sgfxi will now do it, largely following nvidia's methods, except for putting previews as stables, which is what all 2.6.28 kernel users were using anyway for the last month or so without much issue. Ok, that's it, have fun. Back to top |
New stable legacy 3 (5xxx cards) nvidia: 173.14.18
New Beta standard non legacy: 185.13 Release thread: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=122606 Bug reports: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Should be basic, 173.14.18 is just the official stable version of the last one, no big differences. sgfxi -cB to install new beta, which is the only beta offered at the moment. Blah blah... ok, have fun. Back to top |
New stable/preview 180.41
Release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1963540 Bug reports: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 One person reported issues, but remember, bugs are only useful if posted in nvnews forums, unless it's an actual sgfxi installation issue. I'm continuing to use previews for stables until feedback suggests not to do that. Back to top |
Rolled back default nvidia 180.41 to 180.37 due to several people reporting x failing to start with 6 and 7xxx cards.

New nvidia 180.44
Release notes: us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/180.44/README/index.html Bug reports: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Still with one beta, 185.13, all peaceful and happy. This one I assume solves the 180.41 problems, which I had to pull right away because of failures to start x in some cases. Let me know if it doesn't, and I'll revert again, but I doubt that will happen. Back to top |
Improved x kill feature to not use nohup unless x is running, ie, if DISPLAY is not null.
This should help make errors more readable I think. Back to top |
New default standard driver for nvidia: 180.50
Release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1984723 Post bug reports after reading this thread: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Note, one good feature of this driver is: :: Quote :: Updated nvidia-bug-report.sh to compress its log file; running `nvidia-bug-report.sh` now produces "nvidia-bug-report.log.gz".That's very useful because the bug report file is too big to upload to nvnews.net forums, so that makes the process just that much easier. The actual current stable, 180.44, is still installable if you have issues with: sgfxi -co 180.44 Back to top |
Because of technical issues, now to use 180.50, if the release stuff fixes some issue, do: sgfxi -co 180.50
180.44 is returned to be default. Back to top |
Update: nvidia pulled 180.50 and replaced it with 180.51
this is installable with: sgfxi -c0 180.51 Release highlights: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=131671 Bug reports: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Please note, this is supposed to fix the issues with 180.50, but I'm leaving it as an optional install, with 180.44 remaining the stable until we get some feedback from people with 6xxx or 7xxx cards.
