I'll create an sgfxi specific faqs page on smxi.org and add this to it as the first item.
It's a good point, and since the answer is so simple, it should be of some use. I hope you don't mind if I quote your question largely verbatim, you put it very clearly. Back to top |
New beta: 180.25 added
sgfxi -cB release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1914053 nvidia bug reports: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Still no new legacy drivers though. Back to top |
Added possible 2.6.29 support for nvidia, must use beta drivers:
sgfxi -Bc This supposedly works for all legacy levels as well as default. Untested by me though. Also full new set of beta drivers: 180.25, 173.14.16, 96.43.10, and 71.86.08. Back to top |
nvidia released new beta: 180.27
sgfxi -cB to install release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1916380 I assume this was a small bug fix for 180.25 so I just replaced it. Back to top |
new fglrx, 9-1.
Probably won't work using default install method: sgfxi but give it a try anyway to see. sgfxi -s the debian method is working and should have 8-12 in it, so that's not bad anyway. Back to top |
I got a nice hardware donation that let me finally setup a box to test fglrx drivers, which means I was finally able to actually do some real bug hunting.
So, first bug is found and squashed, I think the 9-1 should install fine onto the system now, and you can switch between the debian method fglrx-driver and the direct deb creation method, which is what sgfxi defaults to: sgfxi builds and installs the debs directly, and that's working again, I think anyway. Version 4.4.x
New feature: -f option, which runs the fglrx driver installer directly, without creating debs. This should help in 64 bit cases especially, where the deb constructor is broken for debian type systems. I think I got most of the stuff covered, cleanup now includes cleaning up the fglrx direct driver as well if present. So: sgfxi -s would install debian method drivers for fglrx sgfxi will install the deb constructor using the current fglrx driver run package and sgfxi -f will use the run package, and not create debs, just do the straight binary install. this fixed some testing 64 bit cases for me, give it a try and see for yourselves. New stable driver: nvidia 180.29
Release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1927376 Nvidia bug reports: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Legacy drivers + 2.6.28 kernels still require Beta legacy driver: sgfxi -cB Back to top |
4.5.x
Added a new feature, experimental, to import xorg.conf files from smxi.org, this isn't done yet because it still needs to update automatically the downloaded one in two fields using data from your old one, but it's a start. Also a full refactoring of sgfxi was done, to make the code more logically arranged and easier to find things in. Also further improvements in the fglrx installer options, and in various cleanup options. Also created a new tool function to test package availability in apt, the tests for missing required apps were not working as intended, now they are, from what I can see anyway. Back to top |
sgfxi - new nvidia stables: 180.35 96.43.11; beta 173.14.17
New nvidia driver, stable standard: 180.35
Release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=128939 New nvidia driver, stable legacy 2: 96.43.11 Release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=128942 New Beta driver, legacy 3: 173.14.17 release notes: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=128941 Bug report information: www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 Nothing exciting I assume, but there it is... Same legacy1 beta driver 71.xxxx. The legacies, by the way, work on 2.6.29, at least the ones I tested did. Have fun.. or not. And for once, fglrx is keeping up, installs on 2.6.28 with 9.2.. but that's neither here nor there for nvidia users. Back to top |
