If you can not do regular DU....and you miss reading and/or researching a package that is removed by a big DU....consider taking an image of your partitions before this big DU so if error occurs you can recover back in time.

2) I have done this for years. A certain entity at sidux detests and refused to have partimage on the live cd as he regards it as unreliable..........but my many years of experience = its fine for ext3.

3) I actually image after each DU....so tend to do mine infrequently compared to some ppl....Before a DU I restore last image....so have a cleaner system....then DU...then scan with rootkit hunter and update its database....then take an image.......which is cyclic behaviour.

i find d-u once in two weeks is often enough. i used to do once a week, but no longer

i don't need or use apt-listchanges. i rely on smxi and common sense and have done so for years.

the whole thing you go through with partimage seems way too much effort for my tastes...
