It is completely impossible for anyone to know what the problem was without a huge amount of debugging data from all your systems, your vm tools, your build iso tools, and anything else, along with data from other kernels of exactly the same release series, etc, and even then, you'd have to get someone to look at that data and try to figure out what the issue is/was.
