Remove unused graphics drivers failed
Option 31 remove-all in smxi graphics failed, no video after reboot.
I backed up the computer before engaging in this dangerous step, had to restore from full backup, so no big damage ensued. I am having trouble with nouveau warning "register misaligned" on boot, trying to solve. Problem is that a TVI disconnected monitor is detected, which overlaps the LVDS monitor, cannot configure auto resolution because display becomes misaligned. This is bad because there never was a second monitor connected to that laptop, not even while installing. This is a Debian issue, so will post in their forums, I don't want to burden techadmin with OS issues too. Will try to uninstall nouveau next Sunday, when I can get my hands on that computer again. Graphics are all nvidia in that computer. Back to top |
I'll have to check that, the feature probably removed nouveau I'll guess, haven't updated that option for a long time.

that was indeed the case, that's been updated to add in nouveau.
One problem with a script/app this old is that things change in the underlying systems so majorly that things that did work stop working. So updating and testing are always needed, thanks. Back to top |
I will try to help you make smxi better, of course, it is a great tool and speeds up my work.
I think that there is a non-free nvidia driver that I can install, because nouveau is not working right "register misaligned", can you help with that? Back to top |
no idea on nouveau, I don't follow it in day to day development anymore.

My solution was to reinstall the intel driver. But it would be helpful if smxi would detect the video driver in use and not try to remove that one. Back to top |
jiro, intel too? that's odd, I'll check it.

wow, there was a complete change in xorg logging syntax. This type of churn is one thing that makes desktop linux almost impossible to support, a fact I hope some day in the distant future devs will start to grasp as more important than they realize.
