smxi on sidux is gone. Whither art thou smxi?

After today's round of diatribe on sidux irc, the plug was pulled on smxi, etal in the sidux forum. Kicking people off of the irc channel if they dared to mention smxi. I guess it was bound to happen. Who knows why? They state there is now "zero tolerance" for smxi.

They claim that by using this script, you are turning over your life to an unknown third party. I know them as well as h2. What is the difference? They had so much to gain by colaborating and offering smxi.

I never understood the argument that it made support hard.
How hard is it to ignore questions that concern smxi and leave it to those who do use it?

Much ado about nothing. But it prods, once again, the question in my mind, what else do I want to use? Any ideas.

I notice that Kanotix was at #100 on the Distrowatch counter yesterday. Today they're back at #97. When the "separation of efforts" began in Nov-2006 it was about where sidux was [today]. It has been a great ride but maybe it is time to grow up and just run Debian testing, or start from Mepis or what else? I honestly prefer installing sidux and tracking testing. Guess that will have to do for now.

[Installed Mepis-8.06 last night. Used unetbootin to make a pendrive installer. Installed on a desktop part OK. Installed onto the AA1 in about 5 minutes. Battery ran down before getting wireless working, but it is reported to work. Just a matter of learning how. Or use wicd. Nope, PEBKAC. :( ]

Such a waste of effort.

I am a sidux user and I guess I am forced to use TechPatterns smxi + sgfxi and related scripts forum, well not forced maybe but just a slight inconvenience for the moment........I'll get used to it. I hope this forum isn't for experts, I certainly am not an expert.

In sidux where the smxi threads were posted, H2 was "thee" man. Is he lingering in the background here ? Hope so......he is very knowledgeable person. I am not going to drop sidux as my main distro, I am not going to drop using smxi either, so I will be hanging out here.

Regards,

h2 posts here as techAdmin.

Welcome to these forums. I'm sad to see a repeat of kanotix so soon at sidux.

I was also one of the early movers from Kanotix to sidux. H2's scripts and advice have been a major reason for using the sidux-smxi combination. Because the sidux forums come up automatically on Kontact, I've routinely followed the sidux forums.

Although it's a little less convenient tracking this this forum, it looks as though we now have to switch here from the sidux forum, which has become less relevant.

Following the loss of a certain dummy, we'd better also make contingency plans for the possibility of a complete sidux collapse. I'm also wondering what the best options would be.

Well, I left my parting post, if it survives, to the "Ministry of Fear" at sidux. I personally think it was the award h2 got awhile back that really ticked them off. I left them with my final sidux command: apt-get update && apt-get purge sidux-*. Yes, it does work and a few adjustments are necessary. But here I am on pure sid! I hope h2 doesn't ban me from this site since I use smxi and Synaptic! Oh, I'm a bad boy!

smxi awards, whether the first one, never admitted by sidux, for the shared sidux distrowatch award, which I never got any part of, or the second one, for smxi alone, nor a recent very nice contribition from mepislovers

Also, should we decide to change any of these rules without any discussion, we will do so, and will immediately remove all traces referring to the previous versions of this ruleset. The current, latest ruleset, is the one all users must follow, always, in all cases, without exception, and supersedes all prior rule sets.

I think that about covers it, did I miss anything? Other than that, feel free to discuss anything not covered by these banned areas.

paleo, sorry about not being able to add feeds, but I need to keep these forums very light because they get heavy traffic and I can't jack up my hosting plan, just too expensive, plus the code is super slick and optimized internally so I don't want to mess with it.

I don't know what the hell the sidux devs are thinking. Without smxi I would have been gone long ago! Their attitude is such a shame. A great distro may be dying an early death.

They should have embraced smxi & helped others use it to their full advantage. It does nothing but good.

Can I mention 'sid' or is that 'Sid' - sorry if I've offended someone in my first post . . .

Sorry, h2, I wasn't complaining about the lack of a feed for this forum - we discussed this briefly once before and your explanation was quite clear. Although it's so much easier for a user to have it all automatically listed in akregator, the info and friendly atmosphere on this forum more than justify the slight extra effort to access it and it's very quick on Firefox 3.5, anyway.

We sidux-smxi users are OK for now, but some of your valued advice may be needed when sidux finally implodes from a surfeit of hubris.

Although it was predictable, the predicament of sidux is sad, but your scripts just keep getting better and better. You're doing a superb job and it's much appreciated by the multitude.
