The new Mozilla Firebird browser came out recently, one of the changes was to the name, Firebird became Firefox, after Phoenix became Firebird. Hopefully the Mozilla team will settle on a final name now, although I liked firebird much more than firefox, it was probably a legal thing, who knows.

Anyway, it looks good, comes with an improved downloading utility, good bookmark management, everything you might want.

The extensions and skins are solid, although be careful if you are still running Firebird 0.7, some of the extensions and skins are not compatible, so if you have them stored in the user preferences folder, you will run into problems.

You can download it here: mozilla.org/

The browser is a bit smaller than before, definitely our first choice here at techpatterns.com, if Opera were cheaper we might be tempted by the newer 7.x's, but it's still just too expensive for what it is, especially considering how good the Firefox is.

Don't bother with Mozilla 1.6 unless you really need another bloated application, or you reallly want to use the Thunderbird email client too.

I just checked out Firefox, it uses the Mozilla Gecko 1.6 rendering engine, and they managed to break mouseover scrolling of overflow:auto items, that had finally been gotten to work in Firebird 0.7, now it's not working again, I was hoping to be able to replace iframes in some circumstances, but now I guess I won't do that.

Otherwise the browser is great, really works well, loads fast, has good features, comes with tabbed browsing installed, you still have to load the tab browser extensions though, plus the all in one mousegestures, to get it working the way it should out of the box, but that's a small price to pay to get a really top end browser.

Sad news: the only browser that currently supports mouseover scrolling of overflow:auto items is Internet Explorer, Windows. I guess they have to get something right now and then.
