I just upgraded from 5.19.0-17.2 but 6.0.0-7.1 is hanging on boot.

I'm on Linux Mint 21 (based on Ubuntu 22.04). I get the Linux Mint logo, then a black screen with a cursor at the top-left corner.

I can sometimes fix something on a working system, but I'm at a loss when the kernel won't boot. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

If you boot with loglevel=7, do you get any more output to go off of? Also, the output of inxi -b will be useful here. For example, if you have nvidia, if your DKMS package failed to build before you rebooted, you may have no graphics driver, thus no graphics output.

I figured out that dkms had an error when compiling nvidia 5.15 modules for kernel 6.0.0-7.1 for whatever reason, even when done manually. So I went into my driver manager and saw nvidia 5.20 was available, and installled it which compiled 6.0.0-7.1 modules with no problems, and I'm now on the new kernel. Perhaps there was an issue with the 5.15 header files. Whatever the case, I'm now on 6.0.0-7.1 without issues so this can be marked as resolved?

Here's my inxi -b for what it's worth:

Yep, it sounds like it was just incompatibility. Marked now as resolved.
