I have successfully installed the 3.7.0-10.dmz.2-liquorix-amd64 kernel, and it starts, but Xserver does not function. after doing a sudo apt reinstall nvidia-kernel-dkms, it integrates the modules fine for the stock 3.2.0-4-amd64 kernel, but not the liquorix kernel. How can I get the nvidia drivers to install? I have included the contents of the /var/lib/dkms/nvidia/304.48/build/make.log file below:

304.48 doesn't work with 3.7.10 kernel, you need the current version, you have to learn to understand that using dkms is not really compatible with using non distro standard kernels, or xorgs for that matter.

When you use the distro kernel, the distro nvidia dkms package, and the distro xorg, everything is designed and tested to work well together.

When you use later kernels there are no guarantees at all.

sgfxi will install the latest nvidia driver assuming the various mint bugs don't kick in, this is mint, right? or ubuntu? Make sure to include this output NOW, HERE:
inxi -bxx
so we don't have to ask you item by item about your system.

But 304.48 will not work, that's not a bug, it's expected and standard, only the current versions of 304/310/313 series work on new kernels.

Here's the output from inxi:

:: Code ::
CPU[-Quad core AMD Phenom II X4 965 (-MCP-) clocked at 800.000 Mhz-] Kernel[-3.2.0-4-amd64 x86_64-] Up[-16:21-] Mem[-2010.1/16084.9MB-] HDD[-2140.5GB(0.6% used)-] Procs[-197-] Client[-Shell-] inxi[-1.4.23-]

I'm running Linux Mint LMDE. Will the Nvidia drivers work if I manually install the 310.40 *.run package from nvidia.com?

Please post the data I requested: inxi -bxx

Failure to post requested data terminates support here because it's a waste of both of our time to have to try to guess what your system is.

That option does not produce anything. Here is the output:

:: Code ::
kurt@kurt-pc ~ $ inxi -bxx
/usr/bin/inxi: illegal option -- b
Error 7: One of the options you entered in your script parameters: -bxx
is not supported.The option may require extra arguments to work.
For supported options (and their arguments), check the help menu: inxi -h

I got the nVidia drivers installed by following the instructions here:

You can always run inxi -U first to update the script. It's likely that the version you have is ancient. The -b switch has been part of inxi for the longest time, so either you're not running inxi, or you're using inxi from a neglected package.

yes, for some reason mint has not updated that ancient version they use, 1.7.24 or whatever it is.

Nice to see they can find their way to sgfxi and that it works, some mint installs appear to have issues when you remove the dkms driver but nobody has yet found out why, or reported it fully.

damentz is correct, inxi -U will update your script, done as root, or sudo or however one does it.

Oh, wait, I looked again, this version is even older, 1.4, I can't even remember what that did anymore, where does someone get such an old inxi now? Mint package is 1.7.24 last I checked.
