missing initramfs-tools
I have an issue I cannot seem to resolve.
Using a normal dist-upgrade within smxi, I had an issue where a debian-live component could not be updated so I exited smxi and purged it. Upon restarting smxi, I can no longer update the kernel and am met with You must install the following application to run smxi: initramfs-tools 1 yes-install and then a error message that dpkg error processing initramfs-tools (--configure) usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code of 1 There was a problem with the install of initramfs-tools apt-cache policy shows that initramfs-tools are installed at 0.107 level No matter what kernel I boot to I get these same errors.. Suggestions? Back to top |
:: Quote :: any suggestionsis this a debian live product? if so, you need a different intramfs tools package IMHO leaping ahead you may wish to consider this command :: Code ::
apt-get install live-boot-initramfs-tools live-boot live-config-sysvinit live-config live-initramfs and you may wish to consider my live sources list as per techpatterns.com/forums/about2033.html ----forgive me if I have mis read/understood your post IMHO you have not got the right package if you are using a live boot config 2) I once had a page advising how to update the live cd remaster it did not use smxi. When stable kernel hits 3.5 I will update that link. let me know if you are using a live product as I might have to add the update howto. (I did not think anyone was interested) Back to top |
Nope, not a debian live project, just a good old debian netinstall..
I installed debian live to test some things ... on several machines that I use smxi on also, none of the others hiccuped like this. I will try the install that you suggested... But it is smxi that is not seeing intramfs-tools even though it is installed.. Debian cannot update the package because it sees it as broken. Just throwing out info... Thanks for the help Back to top |
I resolved this by restoring a backup from a duplicate machine using fsarchiver.
I do not know how or why it happened, but alls well in the end. Cheers Back to top |
glad you got it fixed
if you get a chance can you show the output for your versions pls I will show my 32 bit hard drive...non-live ....debian sid :: Code ::

hi
well I hope others chip in but IMHO if this is a hard drive product and you can recover, consider un-installing the package live-boot-initramfs-tools then see if smxi has any issues? good luck Back to top |
I tried every googled suggestion for a couple of days and finally just gave in and restored a backup...
Not the best solution to a small issue, but it is always good to know the disaster recovery process works! :D Back to top |
