I believe current debian nvidia includes dkms, not positive, I'll have to check that, but I think it does. Sgfxi in the past didn't use that method because it was so horribly unreliable and poorly done, but debian did a very good job cleaning up the dkms things.

I completely forgot about that, you're right, in the past at least you would have had to rebuild the modules.

In general I tend to avoid all stuff around debian packaged video drivers so that part of sgfxi is the least tested and maintained.
