Please check your config if the mouse is still not
operational, as by default Xorg tries to autodetect
the protocol.

ERROR: (221) AMD/ATI had dropped fglrx non-free driver support for your card type as of driver release 9-4
Only cards x2000 or newer are now supported by AMD/ATI for this driver.
If you know your card is supported, please let the sgfxi maintainer know.
You can override this test with -! 6 option. If install works, let maintainer know.

ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600]

As noted, sgfxi is working correctly. Thank you for posting the full log file.

That card has not been supported by fglrx for I cannot remember how long, it's been many years.

You must use radeon for that card, there is no option.

One thing I like to do to make it easy to see what driver xorg picks if left to itself is to remove or mv the xorg.conf file then restart x, then run: inxi -Gx

which shows what driver is actually running your desktop. I don't remember the squeeze xorg 1.7 features exactly, but I think that xorg verison handled auto detection of card, and loading right driver, without an xorg.conf file. Not positive on that, easy to test, just mv xorg.conf xorg.conf-temp then restart x, if it restarts, xorg is doing its job.

Radeon actually does quite well with that card series, it has good support. Better than most for xorg I think.

So, again, sgfxi is telling you the truth, 9600 ati cards are not supported by fglrx, nor will they ever be supported again by fglrx. Might be 5 years now since they were, don't remember the exact time. No, wait, heh, I see, sgfxi even tells you when support was dropped 2009-04
