These are patches discussed in August to overwrite "dumb" BIOS settings -> link .

I'm interested particularly in the fast string patch. My X220 (dmesg) tells me it has diabled fast sting operation. The patch affects the fast-string-enable bit (bit 0) of IA32_MISC_ENABLE MSR. Not shure if that matters on X86_64, though ...

Damentz, would you like to consider to include these patches?

Interesting, I'll add these when I prep for the next kernel release. There's nothing more satisfying than getting around a poor bios implementation.

Really great! Never thought that would happen this fast. Very looking forward to the next kernel. Thank you very much!

I bow my head in gratitude. This was really a xmas gift :)

Fast strings are enabled and memory performance seems to be up now:
cached HD reading by some 16% (5200 -> 6000 MB/s). I didn't test any further (yet?) -- seems to work just fine ... :)
