The last d-u brought libssl1.0.0 onto my box. Now VirtualBox cannot be installed via smvi (or manually) as it heavily cries for/depends on libssl0.9.8.
The packages from debian (the earlier -ose ones ?) however have been changed already to libssl1.0.0. So they could be used partially instead for the time being.
Unfortuately this packages do not really want to work with the oracle extention pack (asking for a password). So some caution ist needed when upgrading the system.

sounds like it's worth adding an alert to smxi for the time being.

Just tried to install virtualbox 4.1.8 via smvi.
Its still cries for libssl0.9.8 where I have libssl1.0.0 (1.0.0.e3) in the meantime.
Also when trying to install the downloaded package with dpkg.
Has anybody experienced the same ?

Really strange.

Well I lately found two ways to get around.

1. Install the current debian VirtualBox 4.1.6, grab the Oracle Extention Pack . Now call Virtualbox as root with X enabled (sux) and install the Extention -Pack. It will be availalbe for all users.
Installing it as user with the root password didn't work for me.

2. Do it the evil way. Download the Package for the newest Ubuntu version for your machine and install it via dpkg. Continue with the Extention-Pack as described under 1.
This version is already compiled with libssl10.0.0

But be aware
It might be in a bad mood and brake your system, your car, your house . . . !
Hasn't done with mine yet but give it some more time . . . :-D
