In my case the installation was "fine" but after that X not start and freeze all the system. I switched to radeon open driver.

Next month we will see if the driver will work or not.

Wow!! ATI/AMD finally fixed their failure to report errors back to the shell!!

So the sgfxi log shows this clearly enough, the fglrx installer exited with error.

They might have changed the installer log location, to go with their changed installer file name, if anyone knows the full path/name of the amd / ati installer log, please post it so I can update sgfxi.

However, to be clear, this is the amd/ati installer exiting with error, and sgfxi noting that fact, and telling you. Not, that is, a sgfxi installer error. Obviously there's nothing I can do about fglrx installer errors.

In general, I really have to push this point: do NOT waste your time and money on new ati/amd cards/chips, you will never have a happy Linux experience. Older stuff, you can probably revert to the improved xorg radeon driver, with its limited capacities.

So, if I download the file from ATI/AMD and just run the ATI file script, all should be good?

On another note, can sgfxi be used for the Intel sandy bridge graphics?

How on earth did you gather your conclusion from my statement?

What I said is that amd finally made their installer report error when it fails, not that it isn't failing.

All standard unix type programs when they have an error are supposed to return an error code on exit to the the shell. AMD/ATI had failed to do this for ever since I started sgfxi, so sgfxi couldn't know that the fglrx installer had failed and exited with error. Now it can, apparently.

Got it? This comment was ONLY about amd/ati finally fixing a long standing bug in their installer, it had nothing to do with fglrx working with xorg 1.11 which it by the way does not, and will not, for several months.

There is no xorg 1.11 support now in 11-8, nor is it expected for a few months, that is, unknown future release. AMD/ATI does not support rolling releases, this is their policy, and it has never changed.

I have no information about sandybridge. Does that require anything special in terms of drivers etc? Isn't it just the native xorg intel driver? If it requires some steps, then list them explicity and I'll let you know.
