[SOLVED] 3.0 kernel: no sound on the headphones
running the new 3.0.1 kernel and when i plug the headphones i have no sound coming from them.
Audio: Card: Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller driver: HDA Intel bus-ID: 00:1b.0 Sound: ALSA ver: 1.0.24 also when the kernel boots it displays a line about /home/damentz/zen-sources/future/.../rtc rtc drivers not found something like that. i didn't found the message in my /var/log/boot. edit: just noticed this conky seams not to start anymore. Thanks, I'll look into what's up with the rtc modules.

Just upgraded liquorix to "3.0-1.dmz.2-liquorix-686" Headphone problem fixed, message in boot as "/home/damentz . . ." still exist and conky still not starting up with message as follows: Conky: too many interfaces used (limit is 16) Conky: Error destroying thread Thanks for your immediate upgrade. i still don't have sound output on my headphones. i guess it's a upstream bug. also i tried auto-mute disable/enable in alsamixer. other weird thing is that pcm is always at max and it cannot be changed or muted (the mute sign is missing). why alsa guys don't leave stuff just be, if it ain't broken don't fix it. message at boot and conky not working still there.

it still doesn't work. that's ok, i'll wait for a new version of the kernel, like 3.1. i hope they solve it.

hi
I have no experience at running a rtc kernel but ifit helps, you may wish to post your alsamixer image like this....see the word FRONT which is from my alsa howto from here techpatterns.com/forums/about1813.html 2) I am hoping we can resolve it merely by defining your model=string? regards Back to top |

hi
as expected you have no Front control but I am assuming too much about your hardware....so lets do this step by step? 1) Describe your hardware as desktop or netbook or laptop EDIT 1A.....do you use HDMI out? If not pls mute spdif 2) Describe the number of colour coded jack points (=stacks) for your soundcard or onboard sound device 3) Look at my alsa page and post the output of aplay -l aplay -L cat /proc/asound/version cat /proc/asound/modules 4) I am assuming yours will show up as Intel but there is problem with my intel link www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt your card does not show but google suggests it might have been 5045 but that is still not giving us a nice stack match as per Conexant 5045 ============= laptop-hpsense Laptop with HP sense (old model laptop) laptop-micsense Laptop with Mic sense (old model fujitsu) laptop-hpmicsense Laptop with HP and Mic senses benq Benq R55E laptop-hp530 HP 530 laptop test for testing/debugging purpose, almost all controls can be adjusted. Appearing only when compiled with $CONFIG_SND_DEBUG=y Notes Possible 5045 match.....unable to show full link as is...instead windows driver shows up by going to www.driversforfree.com/ enter search term 5045 cx20549 ^^^^^^^^^ only to show 5045 is the same as yours 5) Ok now looking at the upping alsa version notes www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Detailed_HDA_changes_v1.0.23_v1.0.24 this is worth a read? use your browser to search term conexant gives me interest of: a) ALSA: hda - Mute speakers when line-out jack is plugged with Conexant auto mode Mute speakers when a line-out jack is plugged as well as headphone jacks with the new Conexant codec parser in the auto mode. b) ALSA: hda - Check the external mic pin more strictly for Conexant chips The external mic jack for auto-mic switch must be really an external jack and with a presense-detection capability. This patch makes the check more paranoia. c) there is also chat about the use of HDMI Back to top |
