Sorry, I guess I panicked. I got the "mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth" error, and used the fix here:
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1602767 Before I did that I reinstalled dkms/nvidia-current in an attempt to get the display manager working again. I did what you said, purged dkms and then went into Liquorix and ran sgfxi, and it worked! I think I was just so worried I'd break something by removing dkms, since it seemed important. I'm running under Liquorix right now, and the only error I've had so far is that there is no CPU clock scaling, which is okay for me. How can I find out if there are major errors that need to be addressed? You also say it's no use running Liquorix on an old Ubuntu. Do you mean I should upgrade to Natty? I've been considering it, but I worry it will just be a new set of problems. Thanks, - keantoken Back to top |

Newer kernels usually newer user space. So yes, upgrading to natty may fix any random problems you encountered since installing liquorix, especially with X.
Remember that Ubuntu 10.10 runs 2.6.35 and Ubuntu 11.04 runs 2.6.38. Liquorix is on 2.6.39, so go figure. Back to top |

Now I have this problem:
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1623447 I wasn't trying to upgrade my distribution, just trying to install OSS4. The problem is associated with external drives and kernel updates. After restarting a few times to de-hang dpkg, I came back to find this error: :: Code ::

Well, when the error message was shown to me it said something like "kernel panic: not syncing", but I see that is not in the log for some reason.
I considered going into the old kernel and upgrading my distro but I realize that would be a bad idea without checking here first. - keantoken Back to top |

It looks like ecryptfs is had an oops, most likely because of the writeback patches I have included that were designed to improve performance on IO heavy loads.
Does this happen on the stock ubuntu kernel? Also, I would strongly recommend upgrading to natty first before troubleshooting anymore. That link you gave us seems to be a userspace error too, there's no point in trouble shooting something that may have long been fixed. Back to top |

Alright, I went to the generic kernel and upgraded, and it works! I'd say everything is 10-20% faster because of these two upgrades, I think they both can claim about 10%.
I had no dpkg unpacking problems, and everything seems to be working fine now. Right now I'm trying to install OSS4, which I hope doesn't lead me into any more kernel hell. Thanks, - keantoken Back to top |

Okay, here we go again.
I posted here, but it seems to be related to Liquorix: www.opensound.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4381&p=17412&sid=ad8021476d08cc17033a37860a46ebb8#p17412 - keantoken Back to top |
