smxi Remove Kernels glitch?
OK techAdmin, I am doing something silly again ....
I have accumulated a lot of older kernels and I need to clean those out (on Debian 6.0 and aptosid partcularly). So I fired up smxi and went to the (new?) Remove Kernels module. Once there I get these two choices: 1-0 remove modules one-by-one ... 1 When you are done removing ... Now I think 1-0 is what I want but I cannot seem to invoke the choice. How does one do "1-0"? I did wonder if this was a smxi bug, so I did smxi -U to see if an upgrade might resolve the issue, but it did not. The "bug" might be in my head, which is not unusual. But if it is a bug tell me what further information might be helpful. Glad to supply it. Back to top |
This is how I do it on antiX (running sid) in a root terminal
smxi -G (to allow 'desktop' use) option 3 clean-up stuff option 3 kernel remover Select kernel to remove option 2 yes remove kernel and download directory. Back to top |
Thanks anti that works! I was just looking in the wrong place.
But I did have to do smxi -G rather than inxi -G. inxi -G gave me a very nice brief report on my graphics card. I have not played with inxi very much. Judging from the help file it does some very nice things. And thanks again for antiX. I am just getting comfortable with antiX-base and enjoying that exploration very much! Back to top |
removing kernel modules is not related to removing kernels, modules are modules, they are attached to kernels.
The kernel remover also removes any detected module, of course, along with some other things. I fixed anticaps post to make it smxi -G Back to top |
Thanks techAdmin. You and anti taught me one thing - time for me to learn more about kernels and get my language straight!
And I learned that inxi, to which I had paid no attention, offers a very useful set of tools. Back to top |
