Hi there,

first of all, thanks a lot for your superb script.
It spared me a lot of headaches in the past.
Today I encountered a problem for the first time. I did a dist-upgrade (not the kernel) and tried to install VMWare player afterwards (from within smxi). The dist-upgrade ran flawlessly but the VMWare installation threw an error:

"Error: gcc and kernel headers must be installed"

Well, in fact they are!
I'm running kernel 2.6.34 on Debian/sid and I have both the kernel source and the kernel header as well as gcc installed.
Now I'm somewhat lost and I don't know what to do.
Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Regards

P.S. I don't know if I'm posting in the right part of the forum - since the error occured while running smxi I created the thread here. If that was wrong, please move it to the right place.
Thank you.

that's strange, if the vmware installer itself threw an error, not sure.

You can go to paste.debian.net and paste in your /var/log/svmi.log

then post the url here.

I haven't done any active work with vmware because they broke their direct download link when vmware 3.0 came out, the free player, and there's no way to get around their login requirement to download it.

Are you then just talking about the vmware module builder, which should still be working?

Maybe that one requires more testing of gcc and headers, it may skip it, I don't remember.
