smxi is holding thunar and thunar-data because the first is version 1.0.2-1+b1 and the latter is version 1.0.2-1.
I don't understand about these things, like how the mismatches may break the packages, but isn't the +b1 just a bug fix or, say, a translation update that actually doesn't affect the package version?

the debian packagers make version mismatch numbering almost completely random, one month it will be one way, another another.

If you feel the versions are safe to install then just manually upgrade them.

I have to change those relatively often because of this problem, smxi uses 3 levels, from experience, the basic number, the number -1, and the number -1+b1 for example in this case. All levels were set because of failures at that level. Ideally debian would have a rule about when a version is mismatched but they don't, it's totally random as far as I can tell.

I'll downgrade the thunar but that will have to do it for the next few weeks, won't have time to do any more fine tuning.

[update: now thunar data / thunar will mismatch with -1, but will ignore the +... part.
