I am about to install sidux hypnos.
I just read this on the sidux forums;

sidux.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=21148

I have used yor excellent script with sidux in the past.
Are you aware of any problems installing flash 64bit plugin using smxi at this time?

Install time approaches and I would just like to be prepared...

It won't install the 64 bit now as it's been taken down from the adobe site. You could try using the LiveCD, installing gnash and see if it suits your purposes.

@drb Thanks for the input

So, to be clear;

:: Code ::
apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

or trying to install flashplugin-nonfree via smxi will no longer work??

I read that gnash will not work for youtube.com....

That's the position. According to some sidux forum posts there are ways to get some success with gnash and html5. I'm about to install sidux on a laptop and am going 'back' to 32 bit.

I never left 32 bit, since 64 bit on a desktop offers precisely 0 advantages.

If you use > 4 gig ram, which I have no idea why anyone would do, since you can't use that much ram in any scenario I've ever seen outside of workstations running multiple VM instances assigned significant amounts of ram, there is one advantage.

If you work with very large files, > 4 gigabytes, there are two advantages.

There's a reason consumer uptake of 64 bit has been so slow, it never filled any need. And on the free gnu/linux desktop, since it is only 15% or so of the overall linux market, probably less I'd guess unless Ubuntu users are running 64 bit in > 15% numbers, you're looking at a very small debugging/development base.

I've even been seeing more and more 64 bit bugs in Debian package pool in sid over the last year, something that surprised me, but when you cut the test pool / debugging base, the quality will drop.

So I guess I have to update smxi again, oh well.... lol

gnash is a sad project engaged in a sad futile undertaking, and they will never catch up with real flash.

Real flash is a front end for advanced web services, besides playing youtube movies etc, and it's a rapidly moving target, so I really don't see gnash ever catching up and becoming a real option. I don't actually know how they get people to work on such futile projects to be honest.

So if on 64-bit am I safe to assume that I can put flashplugin-nonfree on hold and continue to dist-upgrade via smxi?
Or are there other packages the plugin depends upon which will be upgraded anyway, effectively killing flash on my system?
