new xorg 1.8 may cause issues?
TechAdmin
pls move to diff forum if you feel like pls. according to sidux post here sidux.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=20425&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 xorg 1.8 likes /etc/xorg.conf.d/ and a blog may explain it here who-t.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-configuration-world-order.html It appears that if you now have your xorg in that new folder...(.create new folder if necessary.)...your problems may be reduced? new xorg allegedly will use your xorg.conf if found in new folder....before assessing other stuff I have yet to upgrade etc so its all untested my end 2) In reference to the synaptics sidux issue the link suggests creating this rule as per www.deelab.org/bash/2010/04/xorg-1-8-synaptics-touchpad-configuration/ YMMV Back to top |

I don't see any issues using /etc/X11/xorg.conf just new options to be geekier if required. Apparently nobody in linux land knows how to do simple text file parsing, so they keep having to break up simple files into sub files to let script kiddies into the game, I guess, or something.
Anyway, thanks for the update, looks like no changes required for xorg.conf constructions. My reading of that blog posting says that xorg.conf remains standard, but any sub file fount in xorg.conf.d will be used as well if found, allowing for modular construction of the contents of configs. But unless I missed something, nothing has really changed, it's about the same as sources.list.d vs sources.list, apparently the ability to modify simple lines of text is just too hard for linux hackers, and I have to be honest, I don't find that a very positive statement, because it's really not that hard... all this new idea does is make it HARDER to modify content because you have to check two places, not just one now, just the same as with sources.list.d cr#p.
