I came across a very good article on google pagerank on efactory.de. While it's not everything you need to know, it is a very good starting off place if you are trying to begin unravelling the google machine, or any other search machine.

Anyway, check it out if you've been looking to learn more about how this search engine stuff works, it's not easy to figure out, but the more of these real research type articles you read, the less haze there is.
