:: sickie wrote :: I'm downloading the beta now... sounds interesting.dear sickie, Thanks. fyi this is beta2 but it's beens so much tested and just in case will appear some minor errors or bugs let me know it sooner. I needed the "h2" and everybody here checks if the script smxi/sgxi is working all right. We've been working hard to furnish a good otimized debian with smx/sgxi. I will appreciate your comments sooner. cheers. Back to top |
OK, I just clicked a bit in a VM. I hadn't installed it nor I made tests with smxi. But one thing: Epidemic is sexy! I really like the logo/wallpaper. I will try more, but not now as I have something else, not computer related to do. What I can see as an issue is that Epidemic is using Network manager while smxi needs to be run in init 3. As far as I know there were connectivity problems outside of X if NM was installed. But maybe that issue is resolved. Will try it a bit more and if all will be smooth I'll replace my sidux install with it.
Anyway, great work, Carioca and others that made that squeeze based distro. Back to top |

Hello again :)
I've been over to official forums but there is no English support whatsoever so I'll make a bug report right here. Sorry to both you and techAdmin. I've burned 3.1 beta 2 to a RW DVD and the md5 checksums matched. So I rebooted my PC in to live, clicked a bit around and than started the installer. My sda has 8 partitions, while sdb only 2, of which one small partition of 14 GBs (/dev/sdb2) is dedicated for testing out distros as I plan to reinstall my main OS and I'm experimenting with different Debian derivatives. I left GRUB to automatic, went trough all steps (I selected /dev/sdb2 for root partition) and started the installer, which prompted me that the partition should be formatted before install so I started the partitoner and formatted sdb2, reclicked Install and all went well. But upon restart my old GRUB started, but fortunately I already had it setup to chain-load /dev/sdb2 so I could start Epidemic's Grub, but it gave me an error about executable. If I remember it right, it was error n. 14. Any way, I than chose to start my main OS, but it gave me an error about super-block being written in the future and I had to manually start fsck and reboot. When I started my main OS, sidux, for the seccond time it gave me the same error about super-block for all other partitions defined to be mounted in fstab (namely, sda5, sda8 and sdb1). I fscked those too and the system booted fine. So, here I am right now, writing you from sidux just after the above adventure :) I need now to fsck other, not auto-mounted by fstab partitions... Yes, I just tried sda3 and it had errors about being mounted in the future. But that partition wasn't mounted for quite some time (it was a /boot in a previous install), so it's confirmed - the installer mounted partitions that it was supposed to leave alone. What's worse is that I still need to recover data from one of my partitions so it shouldn't be touched at all (now it's in an inconsistent/corrupted state just as others are) so I consider the behavior to be very bad and you should correct it before 3.1 is labeled as stable. In conclusion: I won't be trying that beta but will rather wait for when that installer issue will be resolved. So please, if you'll correct that behavior I'd be vary glad if you could notify it here on this forum, as I can't follow your web page (no English support) as I'm very interested in Epidemic. Thank you again. Back to top |
Hi carioca
I'm downloading the DVD now. I plan to put it up as a guest in KVM. I'll let you know how it goes. BTW, congrats, it's nice to see you come out with your own distro, I hope it's a smooth ride to the release. Back to top |
we're starting up an epidemic gnu linux english support
hi, dear fellows,
Now, we're starting up an epidemic gnu linux english support at sidux-underground.com/smf/index.php at the forum "underground sidux" with the buddy "trash80" (the sidux underground administrator) who is going support you if you'll need some prompt help. He set aside a part of the forums for English support called "Epidemic GNU/Linux - Support Area -English Support for Epidemic GNU/Linux ". Enjoy it and report any trouble there. the nobos won't be without support anylonger. for the while being, we don't have an english support forum yet. But in time to come we are going to give you an english home page at the epidemic gnu linux main page. cheers. edited: FYI We've just started up the new epidemic english forum yesterday as I told you above and they report some bugs with the solution there: You can redirect the novice ones to the support forum in English at sidux-underground.com/smf/index.php?topic=157.0 Now, we need moderators there and we're applying for good ones. cheers.
