As an smxi user, kde4 sceptic and other (non-technical) issues, I now feel totally alienated from sidux and won't use it. A Debian "non-distro" solution now appeals to me. With a bit of help from smxi you get what you want that way
GoinEasy9 posted an excellent method to get a good self-build system from scratch. I just did a similar process but a little differently, making a livecd good for multiple boxes. It works well and also installs in less than 5 minutes. An approx cache helps with download restrictions, most of us probably have some form of that. Our techadmin posted a comprehensive approx tutorial. I'm doing a Lenny-based mix now because I fail to see what, at the moment, is awe-inspiringly good about sid (dzz rants: where is my ******* desktop?). Having built the cache, it's then just the bits of unstable I need. But a reasonably full system will need 2 -3 GB for bootstrap/netinstall Back to top |
