This new information from the Debian devel-announce mailinglist might be interesting. It refers to upgrading from Etch to Lenny:

4. Run aptitude install dpkg aptitude apt to install the newest package
management
5. Run aptitude full-upgrade
Source: lwn.net/Articles/301953/

If this is the final procedure to do huge dist-upgrades in Debian, then for users of testing and sid (sidux included) who prefer bigger time spans between upgrades this really would be an easy to remember "rule of thumb". aptitude/apt-get should be interchangeable.

So let's wait for the final release notes of Lenny.

Basically, it means that testing is already dist-upgraded.
No updates to these packages.

I am learning to use aptitude interactive instead of synaptic. Had to remove synaptic because I would ue it if it were available, from habit. But to reduce the variables of sidux2testing it seemed better. I've not had any problems but am learning to like both presentations.

Richard.
