Firefox 0.9 is now out!!
The new firefox 0.9 has just been released, that's the final version, not the release candidate. You can download tne new firefox here.
I haven't tested it yet, early reviews look good though. Read more on the firefox forums of mozillazine.org If you haven't checked out Firefox yet, check this one out, it's smaller, faster, and more turbocharged than ever before. Back to top |

Turbo charge Firefox 0.8 and 0.9
I found [new user link] about turbocharging Firefox 0.8
:: Quote :: To get started, type "about:config" in your FireFox address bar. The settings you're looking for are:
1.) network.http.pipelining 2.) network.http.pipelining.firstrequest 3.) network.http.pipelining.maxrequests 4.) network.http.proxy.pipelining 5.) nglayout.initialpaint.delay Set #1, #2, and #4 to "true". Set #3 to a high number, like 32. Set #5 to 0. Make sure you try it out after resetting the nglayout.initialpaint.delay, I've found that it breaks some page layouts, and all it's doing is making you think the page lays out faster by starting earlier, it still takes the same time more or less to actually get the html, don't use the paint delay or you'll start seeing various display and javascript bugs that will seem weird. Well, forget that, just try it for yourself and see how it works, if you like the results, keep it at 75milliseconds or so, if you're getting page display errors, put it back to 250 milliseconds. In Firefox 0.9, the above categories are not available [see fix below for ngpaindelay, jeffd] , it looks like they've been replaced by this one: browser.turbo.enabled so just type in about:config in your firefox 0.9 address bar, and scroll down until you find that item, then right click it, select 'modify', then change 'false' to 'true', you have to type that in of course to change it. For more reading, check out the [new user link] thread on [new user link]. Back to top |

The browser.turbo.enabled feature has not been functional for quite a while, ignore that one.
Firefox 0.9 has only about half these options, scroll down the about:config screen until you get to the pipelining options, and change anything with pipelining in it from false to true. The only values I found are: network.http.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests network.http.pipelining.maxrequests should be not higher than 8, otherwise it causes problems for the webservers, it's bad manners, so leave that at either 4 or 8, it won't give you much of an increase in performance, and will put undue strain on the site server. You can add nglayout.initialpaintdelay manually by entering about:config, then just click on any item to highlight it, then right click on that, select the new -> integer item, cut and paste in -- nglayout.initialpaintdelay -- [without the dashes], it will ask for the integer value, put in 250, or less if you want it to be faster, and that will apparently do the job. See this part of the Mozillazine.org tuning thread for more information, that factoid was from laszlo. Firefox 0.9 is really nice, it starts much faster than 0.8 did, the download manager has some bugs fixed. Not all extensions are available yet, although if you visit the developer website you can install it from there, things like tab browser extensions, for example are not listed on the official firefox 0.9 extension page yet, but if you go to the link, you can get it there, that's a really nice extension, just make sure to configure it so it doesn't try to cache the tab sessions, that really bogs down the computer, badly, but the configuration options are really great, I can't live without them, well, ok, I can, but I really like them.
