Let me preface and say that I cannot speak to serers, since I have no recent experience with those.

I chose to run 64 bit on my desktop/laptop systems where I could on the assumption that the world was moving that way, however slowly.

Do I see a consistent advantage? No, frankly. 64 bit sidux is very quick on my laptop, but 64 bit Ubuntu 8.10 is not.

Meanwhile antiX, running from a usb jump-drive easily keeps up with Ubuntu.

The one clear advantage I can see has to do with addressing very large amounts of RAM.

At this point whatever the marginal advantages of 64 bit systems, those advantages seem less decisive than the care with which the overall system is assembled.

If a 32 bit system does what a person wants to do I don't think that person should hesitate to run it.
