First of course install lm-sensors. I use the ksensors interface, so that will come automatically if you use apt.
Then run this command as root: sensors-detect Answer yes to all questions Then after it's done, run this: /etc/init.d/module-init-tools then run: update-modules test by running sensors\ you should now see the correct output if your mobo supports sensors more on it, slightly out of date, but as long as you know, it's fine.
