Kinda depends on how much you're able to spend on hosting.

Most "mainstream" hosts aren't into hosting games for obvious reasons. Also for obvious reasons $20 US isn't going to get you much in the way of a dedicated server with decent space and uptime.

Now, if this is in the nature of a MUSH or MUD, that might make a difference as to hosting potentials.

MUSH is similar to MUD, MUCK, and MOO, they're all text-based, run generally on linux, differing ports for connections from players.

This is where google is your friend. [link]

I had MUSH hosting 10 years ago for $25 US a month. Since I wasn't really planning to run it as a public game, I eventually set it up on my own server.

No webhoster offering what that hosting company was offering is for real.

You can't offer what amounts to the output and capacity of a high end dedicated server for $7.50 a month.

If that package had been for real, which it isn't, it would cost about $1000 per month.

Very few reputable hosters will allow livechat because it eats up server capacity on shared hosting.

Is it possible to use my computer as a server? how could I do it myself instead of paying someone else to host it? is that possible?

Ummmmm. Not unless you're VERY VERY good with admin, IT, and security.... or if you're doing just like I did, to mess about with for myself. If you want to have people connecting to your game over the 'net, you really can't do it without a SERIOUS background in security, IT, admin, etc. - which is why it costs the earth to "rent" it.

Did you dig through the google search? That's going to be your best bet.
