What are you trying to do? You don't need to use any software at all to install a hard drive.

Is this a second hard drive, a replacement for an old hard drive, a new install? Please give some meaningful details.

I've used Maxtor drives for a long time. You only need to use the cd that comes with them IF you are going to repartition your drive(s) and then format them....

Otherwise, don't even go there.
