MSI K8T Neo2-FIR motherboard is a 64 bit AMD 939 motherboard that apparently features full native Linux driver support. Read a review on Newsforge.com
This board lists for about $110 [as of 02-05], you can buy it at zipzoomfly.com. This is a full featured board, with IDE Raid, SATA Raid, gigabit networking, firewire and usb 2 supported. The AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor Socket 939 runs about $140 at the same site, which would set you back around $260 + ddr and hard drives. Assuming 1 standard IDE drive and 2 mirrored raid drives, plus 1 gigabyte of ddr, you'd be looking at around: 120 - mobo 140 - processor 80 - 512 mB ddr 50 - main OS drive 160 - mirrored data drives for a total of 550 + case. Not bad for something that would set you back probably over 1500 if you bought it from dell, ibm or HP. I haven't built one of these yet, but when I do [prices will be a bit lower by then] it will be a linux only box, so knowing that the mobo will work with linux is a major consideration. |
