oh forgot to mention

if root (hdo,1) gives you an error....do not proceed with the rest..
It means you need to link grub back to its booting files by doing this

root (hd0,1)
setup (hd0)

and pressing the reset or warm reboot key....no filesystem is loaded so no filesystem check is needed etc

Hi aus9,
thank you for your time and efforts. I couldnīt find the grub-menu where I could put in the command C, but I changes the boot options in: root=/dev/sda2 and the kernel was found and startet. But now there is an anothter problem, whichis described here:
sidux.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=18564&highlight=
I get error-message every second like this:

hi

when you first boot....you arrive at the menu stage of grub.....you know a menu?

at bottom of screen it should say press C or E

and if you don't do anything your preferred title boots after 5 seconds

only its grub legacy and not grub2

lets try that again ...spacebar = space = v

c for commands then type

rootv(hd0,1)

or rootv(hd....and press TAB key)

grub is space sensitive

ok I feel we are very close to solution but I need you to stay with second question

c for commands

root (hd....AND PRESS TAB KEY PLEASE)

please post all you see.

Leaping ahead I think we have a borked grub

Leaping ahead it might actually be faster to do a clean install...but I think you may be the same person at sidux forum and the answers there may be affected by your answers here?

b) And just to humour me, did you run any hard drive diagnostics on this drive?

c) and did you change anything in bios recently?

hi

I have not quite understood your last comment...If I do understand it, it means you have not understood WHERE and when to type the letter c to get to commands.

www.sidux.com/mediashare/t1/o8e5rz50ioozag2oj71me8mksh40zl-pre.png

this is a grub legacy menu. Ignore the actual menu items and look at the bottom of the screen....E to edit or C for commands

before the countdown clock ticks down to zero I would like you to press C for command mode for grub legacy?

Is that clearer?
