Hi

I installed the newest Nvidia driver using smxi. This driver does not go well with the 2.6.30 kernel (in kde desktop effects don't work).

I already described my problem in the sidux forum:
sidux.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-17090.html

and I got this answer:

look at the output of dmesg. If you see a line like "PAT not supported by CPU.", download the patch from zander here (somewhere in the middle of the page):[link]

install it with bash yourNvidiaDriver.run --apply-patch which will generate a new driver yourNvidiaDriver-custom.run.
Go to runlevel 3 an install the new custom driver with bash yourNvidiaDriver-custom.run.

Desktop Effects will work afterwards (had the same problem with the same graphic card).

How do I apply this patch if I used smxi instead of manually installing the driver?

added patch to sgfxi, we'll see how that goes.

I'm not sure if this patch works universally though, and I can't add custom per kernel type, intel/amd, patches.
