To run smxi I do the following at the moment;

1.Open a terminal
2.su to root
3.type smxi
4.confirm shut down desktop to init 3
5.login as root
6.type smxi again...

Would it be possible to set up a desktop shortcut/script to take me to stage #6 directly?

I think it would be possible by using a combinations of the commands:

:: Code ::

chvt

and

:: Code ::

screen

I think it would be a bad idea in general though and would be a liability in terms of security for your system.

What happened to ModestUser's "charon" script? A kdesu shortcut could be made for that, the script did the rest. Logging was easy too.

I used it a lot last year when I did sid. I read nothing of it since last July.
