Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to use smxi for regular package installs or is it best to use apt-get or aptitude? Also, is there an easy way or is it even recommended to install the "recommended/suggested" items when installing a package" |

don't install the recommended unless they look useful.
smxi has package install section, so your question doesn't make a great deal of sense, if the package is in that section sure why not? smxi uses apt-get or aptitude to do everything, it's nothing more than a wrapper for apt tools, so using it is just an easy way to do things. It also will install the sources if they are missing and other convenient things. |

Hi,
I found the package install section but what about apps not listed in there? I will look over it again, I probably just missed it. I was looking to add things like WINE, virtualbox PLUE license, and some other stuff like krdc in the lite version of kde, and some other things. |

smxi only has a small set of packages, for the most common stuff.
Since it's a bit of a pain to maintain any package lists, I try to keep the package groups to a bare minimum, just what's needed to get a good working install going. After that it's up to you. |
