Can be patched away, or perhaps the configuration could be disabled until there's actually some hardware for it? I tested the patch in the latest MEPIS backport of the kernel, and it does work.

Since this is just a cosmetic message you see during boot, I'll wait until another major update to incorporate the change in the next build.
