Posted: May 27, 10, 17:03    Low sound in the 2.6.34 kernel
Hello,

I updated to 2.6.34-0.dmz.5-liquorix-686 and the sound at max in alsamixer is very low compared to the previous kernel that i used (2.6.33-4.dmz.3-liquorix-686). According to inxi my sound card is:

Audio: Card Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller driver HDA Intel
Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Version 1.0.22.1

Also my linux distro is antix 8.5 set to Debian Sid, all up-to-date. I would really appreciate any help to solve this. I like to have the latest kernels installed.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: same low sound in the new 2.6.33-5.dmz.1-liquorix-686 kernel.

Check your mixer volume levels. With each major kernel version, expect the controls to change.

in alsamixer in the 2.6.33.5 and 2.6.34.0 kernels the volume at 100% in both main and PCM is the equivalent of 100% main and 30% PCM in the 2.6.33.4 kernel. the sound is very low. i'll stay on the 2.6.33.4 kernel for now, but i would really like to know a way to solve this. i searched google for answers related to this, but i didn't found anything.

Try building the newest alsa driver pack at www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page.

2.6.35 doesn't include the drivers that were fixed in the ALSA source you downloaded?

from what i read it does, the problem is that the sound is still low. when alsa 1.0.23 came in debian sid the sound was still low. building the drivers with no flags or for my soundcard would solved that. i'll look around for some clues.
