it was wrong of me to make suggestions above my station and may have accidently led others to hijack this thread from its original discussion.

Maybe we can continue this critique in grub forum?

speaking only for myself, I welcome your input and interest in grub 2, just as I welcome damentz's input and interest in kernels. Somebody has to explain and fix and make work after all. It's a dirty job, as they say, but somebody has to do it. Or was that talking about garbage men or proctologists?

I agree with your sentiment, and yes it's totally ridiculous that grub2 developers did not make this easier to setup than the original grub. Even for me I'll stick with grub-legacy for the near future till grub2 gets solid and bug free. A boot loader should not be an aggravation but a helper.
