Ok I wasn't sure where to post but since I got it thru smxi I'd start here. I'd like to totally purge google earth and re-install it. It "starts to start up) then just shuts down. I honestly don't remember when this problem started, I haven't used it on my linux box in quite a while now. Running sidux, kde4, if you need more I'll post that too. Thanks......

I think the smxi google earth installer totally removes it first then reinstalls it, if it was installed prior to reinstall.

ok thanks I'll go and try it and report back.
Edit: Ok I did get it thru smxi. I had a bunch or warnings come up something about dpkg-shli (something or another sorry couldn't get it).....anyway it has installed and is working. I "appear" to still have another instance of it in my start up stuff in "internet" in kde 4. I have two listed one won't start all the way the other one will. By typing "googleearth" as user in terminal the correct one fires up. At any rate at least it's working now. Thanks H2 I appreciate it. (if you know how to make the other one go away I'm game for that though too) Once hearty thanks for making my journey to linux a smooth one. |

Edit2: OK probably should have said my KDE menu not start up stuff. any way both instances are listed there. One fires up, the other not. I don't know how to edit that menu or delete the other instance (if that's the correct word) of it. Edit 3: LOL anyway ok I was able to get it to go away by using kmenuedit. At least now I don't see it from my menu. At any rate have a working google earth now. Thanks again!!!!! |

it's unfortunate if the purge doesn't clear the kmenu item, that's an error in the packaging I think, maybe you need to exit kde first? but no, smxi shouldn't be in kde in the first place, that sounds like a packaging bug to me.

OK well I got it out of there anyway and it's working. (the main thing). I'm trying to get a hold of someone else that may had tried to "help me" at one point in time on this box.....I found a google earth folder in my home menu and I don't believe that's correct either. At any rate, upon deleting that, now both icons are gone from launching in the "kde" part and I have to go to the debian part to launch it. (which is perfect since I'll just add that to favorites). At any rate, I thank you again. Smxi strikes again....one for the good guys.....
If this doesn't make sence I'm sorry. By the normal menu I mean what's "already like just there.....and the Other stuff you have to look harder for..... |
