Create a search engine by using javascript

Hi to all,
I'm new to this website and I can see there is a lot of good thing out here. I have a small request from the Pros.

I'm trying to create a new search engine using JS if it’s possible to select values from the DB related to vacation request, the engine need to select any employees requesting a vacation by a specific date!

Start date -> Calendar
End date -> Calendar



I’m using dotnuke website and I want to add a search engine to a module.

I can't find any sample or tutorial to guide me!
